A man who admitted surroundings fireplace to a homeless man’s sleeping rep as he slept has been jailed for attempted waste.
Graham Moffat was sentenced to 6-and-a-half years for the attack on Mareks Vilkins in East Campbell Avenue, Glasgow, on 2 August 2018.
The High Courtroom in Glasgow heard the 52-year old was considered in CCTV footage pulling out a lighter and surroundings the sleeping rep alight.
Moffat, who was wearing a particular pink jacket, then walked away.
He was in courtroom to glance the CCTV footage of the incident.
Heat, fumes and smoke
His defence counsel Sarah Livingstone described his behaviour within the clips as “original”.
She added: “He has fully no recollection of doing this.”
The courtroom heard that Moffat, a frail fishery employee who was moreover homeless, had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and psychiatric considerations, but on the time of the waste bid was legally to blame for his actions.
The attack came about at a plan of steps on the indispensable entrance to the Lodging Dwelling Mission staunch earlier than 02: 00.
There were no flames but Mr Vilkins had woken up as a consequence of the warmth, fumes and smoke coming from his sleeping rep.

Six lighters
Relating to the footage, prosecutor Liam Ewing stated: “The accused stops next to Mr Vilkins, puts his hand interior his jacket and then walks away,
“He then turns lend a hand towards Mr Vilkins, who’s sleeping. A naked flame is considered within the accused’s correct hand.
“He then bends down towards the effect Mr Vilkins is lying and remains on this issue for 10 seconds, then steps lend a hand and walks faraway from Mr Vilkins.”
After watching the footage, law enforcement officials noticed Moffat on East Campbell Avenue, light wearing the pink jacket.
He was searched and was stumbled on to bear six lighters in his interior jacket pocket.
Mr Vilkins was no longer injured within the incident.
Sentencing Moffat, take Lord Matthews stated: “This was every his and your true fortune. Had destiny taken one other flip he would bear met a most incorrect dying and probabilities are you’ll well well be facing a waste stamp.”
