GARY, Ind. — Police fatally shot a suspect Monday after he opened hearth and injured two people of a SWAT crew who stormed a Gary, Indiana, condo complex attempting for to apprehend him, authorities acknowledged.

Gary Police Lt. Spoil of day Westerfield acknowledged the officers had been shot while helping the Merrillville Police Division with an investigation on the complex. Westerfield acknowledged the suspect centered by the investigation barricaded himself in a region.

After two hours of negotiation, the Gary SWAT crew sought to enter the region and the suspect opened hearth, striking the two officers. An officer returned hearth, killing the shooter.

Westerfield says Cpl. James Nielsen, a 17-365 days-oldschool extinct, became shot within the chest, with the bullet deflected by his protective vest, and once within the arm. Cpl.
